Francis’ writing frequently examines unresolved grief and trauma, their long-term effects, and the possibility of reclaiming agency. Her play, 'Dream School', a thriller about a group of students who find themselves in a cult run by a classmate’s father, received a three-week-run at the Space funded by ACE. ‘Dream School’ was featured in The Stage and long-listed for the 2023 Bruntwood Prize. Her play ‘That Was All’ - examining grief in the pseudo-spiritual age - was produced for limited runs at Theatre503, The OSO Arts Centre and the Space. This play was joint winner of Stagescripts 11@11 ‘championing unsung plays for a further run’. Lloyd Evans referred to ‘That Was All’ as “Art on Stage” in his review in The Spectator.
